A comment on Google's recent energy policy blog post.

(1) Reduce demand by doing more with less

One idea Robert Cringely recently suggested was to prohibit the manufacture and sale of incandescent lights. He was specifically talking about how to reduce the impact of a coming recession that he sees as inevitable, but it's also a great idea for reducing our energy demands. Plus it would be simple for the government to implement (well, technologically speaking, avoiding pressure from interest groups is another issue).

Bogus (but funny) Game AI article?

Looks to me like this article is more than a little tounge-in-cheek.

"We figure with eight million people working eighteen hour shifts, that we can satisfy our needs."

Hmm, even in third world countries, I would guess the total costs involved in paying and administering eight million employees would be prohibitive.

The overall tone of the article, plus a couple of others I read on that web site, suggest that it's not serious.

Space Cynics: An Argument For "Youth"-anasia, Redux

This is part of a post on the Space Cynics blog:

Is our species ready to make the leap off this rock, before we figure out what is fundamentally wrong with our culture/civilisation/society/whatever, or are we doomed to carry the seeds of this sort of behaviour with us throughout the cosmos?

I would suggest that by having multiple new 'homes' for humanity, maybe (just maybe) we can experiment more with different cultures, societies and governments. Possibly leading to better solutions than anything we've come up with so far.
